United's young defender Reason Defeat So Fergie

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson admits one reason for his team's defeat of Chelsea in the Capital One Cup is a younger line of the back line.

In the game this morning, Fergie deliberately plays Scott Wootton and Michael Keane at the back. Fergie apparently attempting to save energy in the face of tough Premier League matches this weekend contra Arsenal.

Both are installed together as a duo United central defender, replacing the role of Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand. But unfortunately, Fergie's decision must be paid to the results achieved by his team's defeat.

Responding to that, Fergie considers the decision to play a young defender is challenging because of the responsibilities they entailed heavier than a young striker.

"Wootton is still young, still 20 years old and Michael Keane is still only 19 years old. Course they will learn from this, but this is quite a painful lesson," said Fergie.

"They've tried hard, show good character and temperament, but still find it difficult."
